Top Navigation

At the top of every page is consistent menu navigation. This navigation will only change for visitors to the site vs. signed-on registered users.

For site visitors or users not signed on:

The link options include:

  • Home – a link to the main/home page in Close by Me
  • Post List – a link to the category post list
  • Sign-In – allows you to easily log on to the system
  • Register – allows you to register as a new user
  • Post a Message – takes you to the post page, where you can sign-on and post a message
  • Contact – find out how to contact the Close by Me team

For users who are signed on:

The link options include:

  • Welcome link – a link to the main/home page in Close by Me
  • Posts – a link to the category post list
  • Feeds – allows you to view your feed of message posts defined by your subscriptions
  • Friends – view you list of friends in the community
  • Mail (number of unread) – view your email messages
  • Logout – sign out of Close by Me

Bottom Navigation

At the bottom of every page is consistent menu navigation allowing you to access important information about the site.

The link options include:

  • Home – a link to the main/home page in Close by Me
  • Post List – a link to the category post list
  • Sign-In – allows you to easily log on to the system
  • Registration – allows you to register as a new user
  • Security Policy – read our updated security policy
  • Privacy Policy – read our updated privacy policy
  • Help/FAQ’s – provides community help and frequently asked questions
  • Terms of Service – read about the site governance that all users accept
  • About – provides information about us
  • Contact – find out how to contact the Close by Me team

Side Navigation

On the right side of the Close by Me system is a navigation bar that allows you to access most parts of the system. This menu bar will adjust depending on if you are a visitor to the site or a registered user.

Messenger Requests

One of the best features of the Close by Me community is the ability of users, both registered and guests to instant message authors of message posts. In order for this to occur, the author has to be logged in to the system and actively online. The Close by Me system checks once every minute to see if a user is online, and then checks to see if the user has any pending requests to engage in an online chat conversation.  If you have authored a post, or are simply online, a user may try and contact you. If you have no requests to chat, the “Incoming Message Requests” box will appear blue and indicate “no incoming requests”.

Note: the system retrieves messages once every minute, and will display the time of the retrieval as Central US Time, where the server for Close by Me is located.

If you do indeed have a pending request to chat, the box will change from blue to orange/yellow, containing a list of all users who want to chat. For each user request listed, you will see the user’s name, what message post they want to talk to you about, and their general location. Because Close by Me allows not only registered users, but visitors as well to chat and engage other users, you may see the user name listed as “Guest”.

 

Once you expand the user’s request, you can decide to either engage in a conversation, or decline to chat. If you decide to engage in a conversation with the requestor, just click on “start chat with user”. A window will pop-up, showing you the user requesting a conversation, their location (if known), and they are contacting you about a particular message post, the subject of that message post will be shown. Once your messenger window is open, the requestor will be notified, and request for messaging will be dropped from the “Incoming Message Requests” list.

If you decide to decline a conversation with the requestor, simply click on “decline to chat”. This will result in a pop-up window verifying your intention, and alerting the requestor that you are not interested. Additionally the request for a chat will be dropped from the “Incoming Message Requests” list.

 

 

 

 

 

Close by Me Actions

The main navigation feature of the Close by Me sidebar is contained in a box titled “Close by Me Actions”. You can find the Close by Me Actions panel displayed on all pages of the application except on the Home page. This panel gives you a quick access to the modules of the application providing you an ease of navigation and performing different tasks. The set of activities listed on this panel are different for a normal and a registered user. For a guest the Actions are limited to merely reading and searching posts. For registered users, you have more access to interact with other features of the system and the community as a whole.

The Close by Me Actions panel has the following sections:

  • Message Posts - This section helps you to view and manage message posts such as searching for messages, listing favorites, reviewing and editing your posts as well as creating new message posts in the community.
  • Subscription & Feeds - Subscriptions allow you to create tailored feeds, which mimic manual searching in the categories list. You can create multiple subscriptions and follow them all in real time on a single page as subscription feeds.
  • People & Friends -  This section helps you to manage your contacts, friends and invite new friends
  • Personal Information & Mail - This section helps you to edit your user profile and also correspond with your contacts thru mail.

Top Rated Posts

Posts that are rated high by the Close by Me users are displayed in the Top Rated Posts panel. The panel is located on the right side of the Posts page. You can click any of the posts listed in this panel to view a full description of the post. If you are a non-member, you can only add a comment to the post However, to perform the activities such as mailing the author of the post, or flagging a post you need to register first.

Top Commented Posts

Posts that have received highest number of comments from the other members of the Close by Me community are displayed in the Top Commented Posts panel, on the right side of the Posts page. You can click any of the posts listed in this panel to view a full description of the post. If you are a non-member, you can only add a comment to the post. However, to perform the activities such as mailing the author of the post, or flagging a post you need to register first.

Top Viewed Posts

Posts that are viewed by maximum number of users on Close by Me are displayed in the Top Viewed Posts panel located to the right side of the Posts page.  You can click any of the posts listed in this panel to view a full description of the post. If you are a non-member, you can only add a comment to the post. However, to perform the activities such as mailing the author of the post, or flagging a post you need to register first.

Close by Me Suggestions

Close by Me welcomes your ideas, suggestions, and feedback which help in making the application a world-class product. All users, registered/ non-registered, can send suggestion/feedback to Close by Me

 

 

 

You  can contact Close by Me in the following ways:

  • If you have created an account with Close by Me, mail us using the Close by Me Suggestion panel. You can find the Close by Me Suggestion panel located at the bottom of all pages except the Home page of the application.
  • If you do not have an account with Close by Me, mail to any of the mail addresses under information, sales, and support areas in the Contact page.
  • Mail us directly using our mail system from the Close by Me Feedback/Contact area.

To send your suggestions/feedback to the Close by Me team:

  • Enter your name and email address
  • Enter your suggestions or feedback in the text area up a max of 1,000 characters.
  • Click Send.
  • The Contact’s page is displayed with a confirmation message that your message has been sent to Close by Me team.
